Game Report

Clapton FC 2 – 1 Wadham Lodge

Clapton FC reached the final of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy for the second consecutive season last night (Tuesday).

The Tons earned a bye into the last four after Bowers & Pitsea pulled out of the competition and faced Wadham Lodge at the Old Spotted Dog.

Michael Walther’s men took the lead through Warren Mfula in front of 134 supporters at Forest Gate.

But the visitors did miss a penalty in the first half to demonstrate the threat they posed.

Clapton weren’t to be denied, though, with Miles Hunter finding the net as they sealed a 2-1 triumph.

It books their spot in the final at Burnham Ramblers Leslie Fields Stadium on Monday March 28.

Tons will face either Stansted, Hullbridge Sports or FC Romania – with the latter two set to play their quarter-final tie on Saturday.

Last season Walther’s men faced Barking in the Memorial Trophy final, but suffered a 4-2 defeat.

They will be keen to make up for that this year and give their incredible fans some silverware.

A statement by Clapton read: “Huge thank you to the Clapton Ultras who’ve supported the boys all throughout our cup campaign and were quality tonight (as always), it’s for you.”

Next up for the Tons is a Essex Senior League clash at local rivals Sporting Bengal United this weekend
