Clapton 4 Burnham 2
Tons celebrated a fine win in the late September sunshine in front of a crowd of 287 at the Old Spotted Dog.
Only two minutes had been played when Shomari Barnwell put Michael Walther’s men in front and Warren Mfula – their late hero at Sawbridgeworth a week earlier – made it 2-0 on 25 minutes.
Charlie Kirby pulled a goal back for Burnham before the break, but Freddie Morris restored Clapton’s two-goal cushion within two minutes of the restart.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men after Joel Barnett received his marching orders, but Lloyd Wilson’s goal gave them hope of salvaging a point.
Roddy Lemba had the final say, though, as he netted Clapton’s fourth goal of the game to keep them in second place on goal difference behind Bowers.
Tons will look to maintain their good from when they welcome Takeley to the Old Spotted Dog on Tuesday.
