Game Report
Superior Finishing Proves Decisive
Another good crowd at the Dog, but the Tons are bested by some clinical Basildon marksmanship.
The game was very even and Basildon proved to be extremely organised and well drilled. However, the Tons more than held their own, regular frustrating the visitors who, only last Saturday, comfortably beat Enfield.
However, the efforts of the Clapton lads were undone by a piece of cruel luck midway through the second half. A free kick from the visitors took a cruel deflection before nestling in Pepe Diagne’s net.
Clapton continued to look for an equaliser but wee restricted to long range efforts.
As the Tons surged forward in their efforts to salvage a point , they were caught on the break in injury and Basildon wrapped the game up by scoring their second goal.
Tons boss Chris Wood reflected on the match afterwards “Basildon the best side we have played in the last 4 games and the margins of difference were hard to see. Next Saturday we travel to Burnham, which is a lovely little town and well worth a visit for any Tons minded to come along. Their ground has great facilities so and fans who can make the journey will be welcomed and hopefully see us battle it out with the league leaders.!
