New ESL step 6 league next season

11 Oct 2017, 16:35

From Full-Time ( ... ue=2829940)
New Step 6 two division league for season 2018/19 in East Anglian / Essex region

After very amicable talks with the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League and the Football Association I am delighted we are able to confirm that a Step 6 second division will go ahead next season as confirmed by Matt Edkins of the FA below. We have been told that this statement will appear in today’s Non League Publication.

Any further news and updates on this historical news will be given due time at our forthcoming all clubs meeting but in the meantime, just to clarify some points , the three Management Committee members of this League that will sit on the Thurlow Nunn League Committee are Martyn Fitch, Michelle Dorling and myself but I can assure all our readers that this will not change the duties we have towards our present Step 5 League.

Another point to mention at this stage is our joint proposal that this new League be called the EASTERN SENIOR LEAGUE and be in two separate sections in a line roughly North and South of the Ipswich area but dependent on the actual constitution. Any club that joins this new League, even if they have come from the Eastern Counties League will be promoted, subject to grading, to the Essex Senior League. It is proposed that the Appointment of Match Officials will be arranged by the East Anglian Pool who presently operate with the ECL.

As the F A have indicated , there will be further discussions and,in addition to that, a hope for more applications to come our way .

New Step 6 Divisions allocated

The National League System structural review took another stride forward this week as the FA’s Leagues Committee formally ratified the decision to award the ownership and control to the two new Step 6 divisions which launch from next season.

A new division in the North West area will be managed by the North West Counties League and the Essex/East Anglian area division will come under the Eastern Counties banner. Work between the FA and the leagues will continue over the coming months in order to determine membership within the divisions.

The North West Counties are expected to operate with North and South divisions whilst the Eastern Counties offer, as part of a joint venture with the Essex Senior League, includes the introduction of Senior League officials to their Management Committee structure.

Ray Lewis, FA League Committee Chair, said: “Both of the applications that were ratified on Tuesday (3 October) were very thorough and of a high standard. The Leagues Committee decided to implement a similar process as to the one utilised for the new Step 3 & 4 divisions, as this had previously served us well. The need for an extra division in the North West was apparent due to the amount of Step 7 leagues in the area and for the Essex area not to have a Step 6 division was also a long-term concern of the Committee.”
