Record collection for Christmas Toy Appeal

Community, News, Solidarity

We’re pleased to announce that generous Clapton fans have managed to raise an incredible £460 for this year’s Toy Appeal.

Due to the boycott of home games this year, we feared we’d fall well short of the previous years totals raised, £375.38 and £338.

And when Saturday’s game was postponed, it looked even bleaker as it meant we could not shake a bucket among supporters gathered outside the Old Spotted Dog.

However, our online fundraising drive saw dozens of Tons fans donate to the Newham Recorder and Community Links appeal, now in its 40th year.

Your cash has now been transferred to the charity and every penny will be used to buy toys for children who would otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas Day.

This year the organisers want to distribute 18,000 toys, which gives you an indication of the appalling scale of child poverty in Newham, made even worse under Tory austerity.

Thank you to everyone who contributed what they could to put a smile on the face of local young children.
