2017 Christmas Toy Appeal

Community, News, Solidarity

The Clapton Ultras call on our friends to help us buy presents for children who would otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas Day.

For 40 years now, the Newham Recorder and Community Links charity have organised the Christmas Toy Appeal so they can distribute toys to needy children across the borough.

This year the organisers want to distribute 18,000 toys, which sounds a huge amount until you see the shocking stats on the tens of thousands of children living under the poverty line in Newham.

On Saturday, outside the Old Spotted Dog as Clapton play Takeley inside, the Ultras will be collecting cash to help put a smile on some of those kids’ faces.

This is the third year the Clapton Ultras, helped by our kids’ group Footy Ultras, has raised money for this worthy cause. Last year the total was £375.38 and the year before £338.

With fans boycotting home games right now, sparked by the liquidation case currently going through the high court, there’s a danger our contribution could be affected.

So if you are not able to join the boycott and put some money in the bucket outside the ground on Saturday, please consider sending a donation online which we’ll add to the total.
